PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Wrapping up their four-game series at Finnerty Field, the Pace University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Southern Connecticut State on Sunday. The Setters move their record to 18-16 overall, including a 9-10 mark inside the NE10.
Game One – SCSU 14, Pace 5 (Eight Innings)
Up 4-0 after five innings, the Setters were unable to hold on. SCSU tied the game with four runs in the sixth before tacking on 10 more in extras.
Junior
Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) led the Pace offense with a 3-for-4, two-run effort while freshman
Nicholas Montagna (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel) registered an RBI double in the fourth.
Senior
Nelson Arroyo (Washingtonville, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) pitched well in Pace's defeat. The right-hander tossed five scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Game Two – SCSU 3, Pace 2
The Setters mustered just three hits in the finale, and after plating two runs in the first inning, were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Montagna added another RBI with a bases-loaded walk, while also chipping in a single.
Freshman pitcher
Anthony Apollaro (Flower Mound, Texas/June Shelton) kept Pace in the game with four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
