PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Wrapping up a 14-game home stretch, the Pace University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Caldwell on Sunday. The Setters now hold a 25-12 overall record this season, including a 12-8 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Game Two – Pace 6, Caldwell 2
The Setters surged back from a 2-0 deficit in the finale to salvage an afternoon split. Pace put tallies across in three separate innings, including a three-run second.
Jenny Gordon (Colonia, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial),
Arianna Guarracino (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) and
Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) all tallied multiple hits, while combining for four runs scored and two RBIs.
Gordon posted a perfect 3-for-3 effort at the plate while both Iverson and Guarracino finished 2-for-3.
Sophomore
Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) served as the winning pitcher for Pace. The Brooklyn native didn't allow a single earned run across the complete-game seven innings.
Game One – Caldwell 5, Pace 1 (Nine innings)
It was a true pitcher's duel in the opener as
Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) and Mariah Culver each allowed just one run over the first eight innings of action.
Garcia, who finally ran into trouble in the ninth, racked up 12 strikeouts in her first defeat since late March. Garcia had won 12 straight decisions, allowing just eight runs over her last 84.0 innings of work.
Senior
Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo./Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College) supplied Pace's lone run with a clutch two-out single that tied the game in the sixth inning.
Iverson had three more hits in the first game, rounding out her afternoon 5-for-7 at the dish.
