PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Beginning a stretch of four home doubleheaders across six days, the Pace University softball team went 1-1 against Bentley on Tuesday. The Setter split moves their record to 21-10 overall this season, including 9-6 in the NE10.
Game One – Pace 4, Bentley 3
Holding a 4-0 lead after six innings, the Setters hung on to win a close opener. Pace's three-run sixth inning ultimately served as the difference maker.
The Setters' top of the order led the way offensively as their first six batters combined to go 8-for-16 with four RBIs and four runs scored.
Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter),
Brianna Shea (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino ) and
Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) all recorded RBI hits while
NancyAnn Revilla (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond) scored two of Pace's four runs.
On the pitching front, freshman Giselle Garcia won her 10th consecutive decision following yet another complete-game effort.
Garcia finished with eight strikeouts en route to improving her record to 13-3 this season.
Game Two – Bentley 4, Pace 3 (10 Innings)
The Setters battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the finale before ultimately falling in extras.
All of Pace's runs came in the fourth inning. A Bentley error put the Setters on the board while Iverson hammered in a pair of runs with a double to right field.
Despite the loss,
Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) registered a quality start in the circle. The right-hander yielded three unearned runs across 6.2 innings.
