Pace Softball Sweeps SCSU in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Winners of eight of their last nine games, the Pace University softball team tallied a doubleheader sweep of Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday. The Setters' current hot streak has their record at 15-8 overall this season, including 5-5 in the NE10.

Game One – Pace 2, SCSU 0
Freshman Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) was once again an unhittable force in the circle. The California native scattered just three hits in a complete-game shutout—her sixth-straight time going the distance.

Garcia finished the game with 10 strikeouts en route to lowering her ERA to just 1.47 in 86.0 innings this season. Garcia has now won her last six outings, logging 58 strikeouts across her last 42.0 frames of work.

Pace's two runs came in the sixth inning. Freshman Brianna Shea (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino ) registered an RBI ground out while junior Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) plated a run on a single to right field.

Game Two – Pace 10, SCSU 0 (Five Innings)
The Setters continued their momentum with a dominant performance in the finale. Remarkably, each player in Pace's lineup recorded a hit while seven Setters tallied at least one RBI.

Alexa Borino (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst), Jade Alvarado (West Covina, Calif./South Hills) and Jenny Gordon (Colonia, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) each led the away squad with two hits while Shea posted a team-best two RBIs.

Shea hammered her second home run of the season in the fourth while Natalia Frias (Chula Vista, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) launched her first career long ball in the fifth.

On the other side of the ball, graduate pitcher Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) tossed five scoreless to pick up career win No. 18. The New Jersey native yielded just three SCSU hits.
