PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fueled by an afternoon of stellar pitching, the Pace University baseball team notched a doubleheader sweep of Dominican College on Saturday. The Setters' two wins improves their record to 3-3 this season.
Game One – Pace 3, Dominican 1
Junior
Patrick Gleason (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) put together a masterful start in the opener. The right-hander allowed just one run and struck out 11 across six innings of work.
Gleason didn't walk a single batter as he picked up his second career win on the mound.Â
All three of the Setters' runs came in the third inning. An RBI single off the bat of sophomore
Anthony Labita (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) turned into him rounding the bases and scoring on a pair of Dominican errors.Â
Later in the inning,
Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) knocked an RBI double to put Pace ahead 3-0.
Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) scored on the play after initiating a two-out walk.Â
Up 3-1 in the seventh, senior
Nelson Arroyo (Washingtonville, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) closed the door to earn his second career save. Dominican left the bases loaded with one out in the final frame.
Game Two – Pace 2, Dominican 1
Two more Pace pitchers tallied solid outings in the finale. Senior
Michael Roll (Ramsey, N.J./Bergen Catholic High School) earned the start, allowing just one run in four innings of work.Â
Sophomore
Dan Brown (East Northport, N.Y./John Glenn) picked up the win following three shutout innings out of the bullpen.Â
Jacobi drove in both of Pace's runs in Game Two. Junior
Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) scored on both RBI singles, the second coming in the fifth inning to produce a 2-1 lead.Â
