Pace Baseball Drops Series Opener to Dominican, 9-4

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Beginning a four-game weekend series against Dominican College, the Pace University baseball team dropped a 9-4 matchup to the Chargers on Friday afternoon. The loss shifts the Setters' record to 1-3 in the early season.

Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) served as one of the bright spots for the Blue and Gold. In just his 11th at-bat of the year, the graduate outfielder hammered his third home run of 2022.

Almonte's solo bomb put the Setters up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.

Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) also launched a solo home run for Pace in the seventh inning. The junior transfer has been red hot to begin 2022—currently leading the squad with a .444 batting average in 18 at-bats.

Classmates Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) and Dean DePreta (Stamford, Conn./Westhill High School) also chipped in RBIs on Friday. Jacobi knocked in a run with a single in the fifth while DePreta recorded a sac fly in the sixth.
