PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Making their 2022 home debut, the Pace University softball team posted a doubleheader sweep against Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon. The Setters' perfect day improves their record to 7-7 this season.
 
Game One – Pace 2, Mercy 1 (9 Innings)
It was another gem from freshman pitcher 
Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) that led Pace in the opener. The rookie scattered just four hits, while allowing one run in nine innings of work. She finished with seven strikeouts. 
 
Garcia's sensational campaign now features a 1.98 ERA across 53.0 innings with 51 strikeouts. 
 
The Setters' offense was mainly comprised of two big hits from a pair of juniors. 
Carolina Iturriaga (North Hills, Calif./Grover Cleveland) tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth with an RBI double before 
Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) walked it off for Pace with an RBI single in the ninth. 
 
Game Two – Pace 10, Mercy 5
The Setters' best offensive game of the year came in Wednesday's finale. Pace racked up a season-high 15 hits, while missing a pair of home runs by inches. 
 
Sophomore 
Alexandra Tejeda (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar) piloted the attack with three RBIs on a 2-for-3 effort, while freshman 
Jade Alvarado (West Covina, Calif./South Hills) was remarkably 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
 
Senior 
Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo./Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College) was also perfect at the dish at 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. 
 
Pederson and sophomore 
Sammi Swenson (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) joined in with multiple hits of their own in the second contest. They each knocked doubles while combining to go 4-for-6 with three RBIs and four runs scored.
 
Graduate pitcher 
Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) picked up the win in her fourth start of the season. The right-hander yielded just one run and three hits in four innings.
