Pace Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Fueled by a pair of stellar pitching efforts, the Pace University baseball team tallied a doubleheader sweep against New Haven on Saturday. The Setters' two wins improve their record to 9-7 this season, including 2-1 in the NE10.

Game One – Pace 3, New Haven 1 (7 Innings)
Junior Christian Aich (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) set the tone in the opener. The right-hander's complete-game gem featured just one earned run and four strikeouts across seven innings.

Aich's five shutout frames to begin the game allowed Matt Almonte's (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) solo home run in the sixth to give Pace a 1-0 lead.

Following a run by New Haven in the bottom half of the sixth, Pace tacked on two clutch runs in the final inning. Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) knocked a sac fly to center, while Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.Y./North Salem High School) registered a bases-loaded walk.

Freshman Nicholas Montagna (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel) sparked the seventh-inning rally with a lead-off double. He ended up scoring the game-winning run on the Rinaldi sac fly.

Game Two – Pace 2, New Haven 0 (7 Innings)
While Aich was impressive in the first game, junior Patrick Gleason (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) may have one-upped his teammate in the finale.

Gleason allowed just two hits across seven shutout innings, while striking out three. The Valhalla native is now boasting a 2.33 ERA with 29 punch outs in 27 frames of action.

The Blue and Gold's offense once again came late. RBI singles from Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy) and Anthony Labita (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) in the sixth and seventh innings provided all the necessary run support for Gleason.
