SYRACUSE, N.Y. -  The No. 15 Pace women's lacrosse team mounted a furious fourth-quarter rally but was eventually defeated, 13-11, by the sixth-ranked Le Moyne Dolphins in Syracuse on Saturday.
Â
Both squads are now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Â
After an evenly-matched first quarter ended with three lead changes and two ties, the Setters were down 5-4. The Dolphins then put their foot on the gas, outscoring Pace five to one in the second to take a 10-5 lead into the break.
Â
A Le Moyne score 53 seconds into the final quarter put them up 12-7, at which point the Setters found their groove again, scoring four times in a less than a five-minute window to cut the deficit to 13-11 with 3:14 remaining.Â
Â
However, the Blue and Gold was not able to get another shot on net off before the final horn.
Â
Senior
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) finished with team-highs of eight draw controls, four points, and two assists, while also scoring two goals. No player in the conference has more draw controls in NE10 games this season than Conway's 22.
Â
Junior
Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) and sophomore
Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester) each scored three goals to lead the Setter scoring attack.
Â
Pace came into the game as one of the best distributing teams in the NE10, but was out-assisted 9-3, with graduate student Erin McMullin's three goals and three assists for the Dolphins single-handedly matching the Setters' assists total.
Â
The road game versus Le Moyne starts a crucial stretch for the Setters, who are also going to play four of their next six away from Pace Stadium.
