WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Beginning a four-game series in Connecticut, the Pace University baseball team dropped a 7-4 contest to New Haven on Friday afternoon. The loss moves the Setters' record to 7-7 this season, including 0-1 against the NE10.
In Pace's conference opener, it was a six-run fourth inning from New Haven that was the difference in the contest.
The Setters' four runs came on 10 hits, including a season-high four doubles. Pace also initiated six walks, while leaving 10 runners on base.
Junior
Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) hammered two of those doubles, while finishing the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
Freshman
Mason Baronian (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) also registered an RBI double in the eighth inning.
Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) joined Rinaldi's multiple hits with a 2-for-5 effort, while also scoring a run.
On the other side of the ball, sophomore
Vincent Vartolone (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) pitched well out of the bullpen. The right-hander scattered just three hits in three scoreless innings.
