Pace Athletics Weekend Preview - March 25-27, 2022

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A huge weekend of Setters action is on deck as the four Pace University spring squads will collectively compete in 10 games over the course of three days, nine of which will be played on the road, with the men's lacrosse team holding down the fort on the Pleasantville campus.

The 7-6 Pace baseball team hits the road for their first conference games of the season when they take on New Haven four times in three days. 
 
Friday and Sunday will feature one contest with Saturday scheduled for a doubleheader.
 
Setter Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was named the NE10 and NCBWA East Region Player of the Week for his .542 batting average, 10 RBI, and three-run performance last week.
 
Most recently, the Blue and Gold split a pair of home games against Goldey-Beacom on Sunday, with the graduate student sailing two home runs over the fence in Pace's 14-12 win.
 
On the mound, sophomore Dan Brown (East Northport, N.Y./John Glenn) grabbed his second win of the season, striking out five batters in three innings of work.
 
New Haven hosts Pace with a 10-4 mark and will also be playing their first NE10 games of the year as well.

The lone home game of an immersive Pace athletics weekend will see the men's lacrosse team welcome American International College to Pace Stadium for a Saturday afternoon NE10 tilt.
 
The Blue and Gold are 5-0 after picking up a 13-8 victory over Saint Michael's College last Saturday in their first conference game.
 
After a tight opening 30 minutes, the Setters outscored the Purple Knights 6-2 in the second half, with goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) doing his best impression of an impenetrable stone wall in the fourth quarter, stopping five out of his 12 total saves.
 
Tim Cairo (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) and Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) each finished with three goals, while Kyle Casey (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) scored a pair.

Following the Thursday postponement of their first home games of 2022, the Setter softball team heads New Hampshire this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders, first against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, followed by a trip to Saint Anselm on Sunday.
 
Pace concluded its season-opening non-conference games in Winter Park, Fla. with a 5-3 record. 
 
Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) compiled a team-high nine hits, while fellow-senior Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo./Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College) and sophomore Alexandra Tejeda (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar) each hit safely on seven occasions.
 
Tejeda also batted-in seven runs to boot.
 
Freshman pitcher Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) went 3-1 in the sunshine state, allowing only nine runs in 30 innings-pitched for an impressive 1.40 ERA.
 
The Californian struck out 30 batters in the process.

The 5-1 No. 15 Pace University women's lacrosse team faces No. 6 Le Moyne in Syracuse on Sunday morning.
 
The Setters, coming off their first loss, came out on a mission against Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday, scoring two goals less than a minute after the first draw, and nine in the first quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach 15 minutes in.
 
Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) led the team with four goals, while Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) was tops in assists and points, with four and seven.
 
Pace is one of five undefeated squads remaining within the conference, and currently ranks second in the NE10 in goals (98) and goals-against-average (6.68), and third in assists (46). 
 
Le Moyne is 4-2, with a 1-1 NE10 mark.
