Pace Baseball Splits Sunday Doubleheader Against Goldey-Beacom

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Capping off a six-game week, the Pace University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday in Pleasantville. The Setters' 1-1 afternoon pushes their record to 7-6 this season.

Game One – Pace 14, Goldey-Beacom 12
In a marathon opener, the Setters registered their best offensive performance of the season. Pace's 14 runs and 18 total hits each signified new team-highs for 2022.

The Setters scored runs in all but one inning, while building up a 14-10 lead through eight complete frames. Pace's explosion featured a total of four home runs, the most by the Setters in a game since 2008.

Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) launched two of those homers to raise his team-high total to five this season. He was unstoppable at the dish in the opener, finishing 4-for-5 with six RBIs.

Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) and Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy) were the other two home-run hitters for Pace, while combining to go 5-for-10 with five runs scored and four RBIs.

In addition to the power display, Pace's 7-8-9 hitters were sensational. Andrew Primm (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), Nicholas Montagna (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel) and Mason Baronian (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) each tallied two hits, while totaling five runs scored between them.

Game Two – Goldey-Beacom 3, Pace 2 (Seven Innings)
In differing fashion to the opener, it was a low-scoring affair in the second game. The Setters did have their chances, however, as they left 11 runners on base and outhit Goldey-Beacom, 10-5.

McCabe continued his sizzling afternoon with three more hits, including a pair of RBI doubles. The graduate student finished the doubleheader 5-for-8 with three RBIs and a walk.

Almonte also added two more knocks while sophomore Thomas Keefe (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) went 2-for-4 at the dish.

Junior Patrick Gleason (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) pitched well in defeat. The right-hander went the full seven innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out seven.
