PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing at home for the first time this spring, the Pace University baseball team was defeated, 9-6, in 13 innings by Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. The loss puts the Setters' record at 1-2 this season.

The Spartans battled back from a two-run deficit in the ninth inning before tacking on three runs in the fourth frame of extras.

Pace notched four of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. A two-run home run off the bat of
Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) kick-started the Setters' offense, while
Dean DePreta (Stamford, Conn./Westhill High School) and
Andrew Primm (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) also registered RBI hits in the frame.

With the score knotted at 4-4, the Blue and Gold put two more across in the eighth. Freshman
Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) hammered an RBI single, while classmate
Mason Baronian (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) scored on a pass ball. Baronian reached on a base hit to center field.

Collectively, senior
Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.Y./North Salem High School) led the Setters' offense with three hits in six-at bats.

Pace used six pitchers in the contest. Freshman
Anthony Apollaro (Flower Mound, Texas/June Shelton) highlighted the efforts with three scoreless frames in extra innings.
