PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Eight different Setters recorded a hit as the Pace University baseball team earned a 4-2 home win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, coming back from down one in the fifth inning.
Â
The win improves the Setters' record to 6-5 this season.
Â
After Pace went up 1-0 in the first inning, the Spartans scored twice in the fifth to take the lead, but the Setters managed to quickly respond in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, before taking a one-run lead once again in the seventh, and adding an insurance run in the eighth.Â
Â
Leadoff-hitter junior Matt Rinaldi and graduate student
Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) each finished with two hits to lead the team. Rinaldi also scored two runs and stole one base, while Almonte drove home one RBI.
Â
A double each from graduate student
Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) and senior
Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.Y./North Salem High School) also proved vital towards the victory.
Â
With the Blue and Gold veterans coming through with clutch hitting and base-running, the road was paved for freshman
Nicholas Montagna (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel), in the first start of his career, to mark his first significant imprint as a Setter.Â
Â
The Carmel-native recorded his inaugural hit and drove in a team-high two RBIs, also the firsts of his career, to make the difference in the two-run triumph.

Marco Siracusa (Kinnelon, N.J./Bergen Catholic) was awarded the win for his three-inning, one hit, one-walk performance on the mound. The junior faced 10 batters and confounded them into three fly-outs and five ground-outs.
