WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Following the first off day of their week-long trip to Florida, the Pace University softball team split a pair of games on Thursday night. The Setters are now 4-2 as they head into their final doubleheader of the week on Friday.
Game One – Pace 6, Bloomsburg 0
During a week of standout efforts, freshman
Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) notched her best one yet against the Huskies. The rookie pitcher tossed a complete-game shutout to improve her record to 3-0 this season.
Garcia stuck out 10 batters and allowed just four hits, while lowering her ERA to 1.22 across 23 innings so far this year.
Offensively, Pace's top of the order dominated. The Setters' first three batters,
Alexa Borino (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst),
Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo./Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College) and
Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) combined to go 7-for-11 with six RBIs and three runs scored.
Borino and Walkingstick came up with the biggest hits of the day. Borino knocked in three runs with a bases-clearing double in the sixth while Walkingstick hammered a solo home run in the fifth.
Junior
Arianna Guarracino (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) also tallied multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Game Two – Purdue Northwest 7, Pace 1
The Setters' offense couldn't replicate their success from Game One in the finale.
Borino hit another double, but it was one of just four total hits for Pace. She also scored the lone run on an RBI single from
Alexandra Tejeda (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar) in the first inning.
In the circle, sophomore
Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) didn't allow an earned run in two innings out of the bullpen.
Up Next
The Setters will wrap up their Florida trip tomorrow with matchups against Caldwell and Minnesota-Crookston.
