the PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Despite battling back from a 6-1 deficit, the Pace University baseball team dropped a 12-7 contest to Mercy College on Wednesday. The loss moves the Setters' record to 5-4 this season.
In a high-scoring affair, it was a four-run eighth inning that sealed a mid-week win for the Mavericks.
The Setters posted their seven runs on nine hits and four walks. Pace's top-four batters did most of the damage, combining to go 6-for-15 with six RBIs and four runs scored.
Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens),
Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and
Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.Y./North Salem High School) all chipped in two hits and two RBIs, while Matt Rinaldi walked twice and scored a pair of runs.
Carminucci provided the highlight of the afternoon with a solo home run in the seventh inning to give Pace a 7-6 edge.
On the pitching side of things, freshman
Grant Biederman (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) tallied a scoreless four innings out of the bullpen.
