Women's Basketball Defeats No. 2 Seed Chestnut Hill to Advance in NCAA Tournament

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Competing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012, the Pace University women's basketball team earned a 59-53 win over second-seeded Chestnut Hill College on Friday afternoon. The seventh-seeded Setters will now face the No. 3 seed, USciences, in the regional semifinals on Saturday night.

Down by one point at the 3:34 mark of the fourth quarter, Pace ended the game on an 11-4 run. Back-to-back baskets from sophomore Shanice Sinclair (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) provided the Setters with their final lead of the game at 53-51 with 1:54 remaining.

Another sophomore, Katumina Mansaray (Ontario, Canada/Cardinal Newman Secondary School/Tilton School), tallied a pair of steals in the final minute as Pace held on for its first tournament victory since exactly 11 years ago on March 11, 2011.

Mansaray served as the Setters' top scorer on Friday with 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting. The Canada native also chipped in a team-high four steals and six rebounds.

Graduate forward Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) reached double figures with 12 points despite battling foul trouble. The NE10 All-Conference first teamer ultimately fouled out of the contest with 3:04 left in the fourth quarter.

Pace's bench served a vital role in the Setters' victory. Sinclair and graduate student Jasmine White (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) each registered nine points, while Tower Lorde (Saint Michael, Barbados/The St. Michael School) chipped in a bucket and an assist.

In a low-scoring affair, it was defense that loomed large. The Blue and Gold forced 19 turnovers, while limiting Chestnut Hill to 17-of-49 shooting (34.7%) from the field.
