PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In their first conference game of 2022, the Pace University women's lacrosse team defeated the College of Saint Rose, 16-4, from Pace Stadium to start their campaign at 4-0 for a second straight season.
Â
It was a history-making afternoon for senior
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) who put seven balls in the back of the net to tie a Pace record for the most goals scored in a game by one player.
Â
Last season, the Wantagh-native was selected to the NE10 All-Conference First Team with 29 goals in 12 games. She already has 15 goals through just four contests this year. The midfielder was quick to give the credit for her school record-tying performance to her teammates.
Â
"I think the energy of the team was up right from the beginning and I fed off that," said Conway. "It's easier to play well when everyone else is playing so hard. We're trying to get a lot of people involved this year, we have a lot of talent in the attack and we have the capability to have everyone score."
Â
Senior
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) scored three goals and dished two assists to bring her NE10-leading points mark to 22 on the season. The Thiells-native has recorded at least a hat trick in three straight games.Â
Â
Sophomore
Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester) scored two goals, while four other Setters notched one to give Pace seven scorers in the game.Â
Â
Freshman goalkeeper
Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) picked up her second win of the season with three saves in 30 minutes of action. Laico leads the NE10 in wins (2), save-percentage (66.7) and goals-against-average (3.83).
Â
The explosive Setters' attack has scored at least 16 times in all four games, and their 70 total goals are the most of any NE10 team.
Â
Four of the top eight goal-scorers in the NE10 are Setters. Conway's 15 leads the conference, but right behind her are Corretjer (12), Porcello (11), and junior
Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) (10) who scored once against the Golden Knights.
Â
"We've been playing together for a couple of years now, and we've built a lot of chemistry," said Conway. "I think after having those years of experience we've been meshing really well on the field."

Up Next
Pace will have a week off before traveling to take on East Stroudsburg University in the final non-conference game of the season next Saturday at noon.
