Women's Lacrosse Sprints Past Jefferson in Season Opener, 16-5

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Seeing their first action of the 2022 season, the Pace University women's lacrosse team posted a 16-5 win over Jefferson University on Sunday afternoon. The victory puts the Setters at 1-0 for the second straight year.

After conceding the first goal of the game, it was an 8-0 run for Pace that flipped the script. Seven of those goals came in the second quarter as the Setters held Jefferson scoreless over the final 17:34 of the first half.

The Blue and Gold also ended the game with six consecutive tallies after their lead was cut to 9-5 at the 2:41 mark of the third quarter.

It was a balanced attack for the home squad. Pace had five players notch at least four points, while seven different Setters found the back of the net.

Junior Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) served as Pace's top-scorer with four goals, while Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester), Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Isabella Piccola (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) each finished with hat tricks.

Piccola also added a pair of assists for a game-high five points, while Conway and Porcello combined for 13 draw controls.

Senior Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) led the Blue and Gold in the assists department with three.

Pace goalkeepers, Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and Ashley Belfiore (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor), split the game in net. Laico earned her first career win after allowing just one goal with five saves in the first half.

Belfiore followed with a career-high seven stops across the final 30 minutes.
