SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In the final road contest of the regular season, the Pace women's basketball team (13-5 NE10, 19-6 overall) was defeated by American International College (7-10 NE10, 10-13 overall) by a score of 64-45 on Saturday.
Â
The game was tied 15-15 at the end of the first quarter, after which the Yellow Jackets outscored the Setters 36-17 in the second and third quarters to put the game out of reach, eventually leading by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter.
Â
Pace came in as statistically the toughest defense in the NE10, allowing just 56.6 points per game. However, AIC was fueled by a boisterous Senior Day home-court advantage and was red-hot from the field all afternoon. The Yellow Jackets made 46.4% of their field-goal attempts, and 40.0% from three.Â
Â
The Setter defense did cause 19 turnovers, as well as record seven blocks and three steals.
Â
Graduate student
Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) recorded team-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Blue and Gold. The Beacon-native is averaging 20.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game on the season. Schetter is one of only two players to rank in the top five of both NE10 categories.
Â
Freshman
Tower Lorde (Saint Michael, Barbados/The St. Michael School) chipped in six points and three rebounds.
Â
The loss puts the Setters one game behind Le Moyne in the Southwest Division standings, with the two squads set to face off in Tuesday's Senior Day regular-season finale. The Setters head into the game as the only NE10 squad yet to lose on their home court.
