NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A trio of medals highlighted Night One of the 2022 NE10 Championships for Pace University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams on Thursday. The Setter men (55 points) currently sit in fourth place through six events, while the women are in sixth (59 points).
As has been the case for most of the season, it was diving that led the way for the Setters. On the men's side,
Sean Rorke (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) and
Patrick Dwyer (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) each brought home medals while
Amy Calandro (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) made her way to the podium for the women.
Rorke finished second in the men's one-meter with an NCAA qualifying score of 455.00. He also posted a 454.90 during prelims earlier in the day.
Dwyer followed with a third-place mark of 427.30 to earn his fifth medal in five career events at the NE10 Championships meet.
Calandro was also a third-place finisher as she secured her first career medal following a three-meter score of 352.10.
On the swimming side of things, it was a pair of 800-free relays where Pace picked up the most points.
The women's team of
Annabel Keppel-Palmer (Kent, England/Maidstone Grammar School),
Daniela Lusuriello (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central),
Katherine Devaney (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester), and
Katherine Kline (Salisbury Mills, N.Y./Washingtonville) placed sixth with a mark of 8:07.22.
For the men, it was
Tyler Besnoff (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township),
Nicholas Lombardo (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell),
Michael Ferstler (Canton, Mass./Canton), and
Samuel Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas/Saint Andrew's) posting a seventh-place time of 7:24.58.
The Setters will be back in action first thing Friday morning for
Day Two of the NE10 Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.
