Hackett, Mansaray Combine For 32 In 55-45 @PaceWBB Win Over Saint Rose

PLEASANTVILLE,  N.Y. –  Setter grad guard Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore guard Katumina Mansaray (Ontario, Canada/Cardinal Newman Secondary School/Tilton School) combined for 32 points to lead Pace women's basketball in a 55-45 New Year's Eve win over NE10 foe Saint Rose on Saturday at Goldstein Fitness Center.  
 
Hackett led all scorers with 17 points, going 7-for-10 from the foul line in the second half. Hackett also led Pace in rebounding with eight boards and four assists and was credited with two blocks.
Mansaray had 16 points, 8-for-9 from the foul line, 4-for-7 from the floor.
 
With the win, Pace extended its current winning streak to four games, dating back to Dec. 9. The Stters are 5-7 overall, 2-4 in NE10 action. Saint Rose is 5-5 overall, 3-3 in league action.
 
At the half, Pace led 19-14.
 
The first quarter was a low-scoring affair with Saint Rose winning the period, 6-5. Only three total field goals were scored in the quarter, the rest were scored on free throws. Saint Rose went 4-for-6 from the charity stripe in the quarter.
 
Pace outscored Saint Rose, 14-8, in the second quarter, shooting 6-for-14 from the field. The Golden Knights led 14-9, with 3:29 left before the half. The Setters' 10-0 run to end the half included two three-point plays and five points from freshman Ciara Colins. Sophomore center Tower Lorde (Saint Michael, Barbados/The St. Michael School) spurned the run with layup at 2:43.
 
The Setters won the third period, 16-9, maintaining a 35-23 lead over the Golden Knights.
 
Saint Rose scored 22 in the fourth period, but, Pace's previous point-cushion was too much to overcome. The Golden Knights cut Pace's lead to seven, 50-43, with 19.4 seconds left. With 14 seconds left the score was still separated by seven points, 52-45, but between Mansaray and Hackett, Pace scored 3-of-4 free throw attempts to ride out the win.
 
For Saint Rose, Makaela Johnson led with 11 points.
 
Up next for Pace, the Setters will travel to Adelphi on Wednesday, Jan. 4 for an 5:30 p.m. tip.
