Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

@PaceMBB Wins Fourth-Straight With 66-60 Win Over Daemen

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- The Pace men's basketball team stuck out another close win as the Setters won their fourth straight game with a 66-60 win over Daemen University on Monday night at the Goldstein Fitness Center. With the win, Pace advances to 10-3 on the season, 6-1 on the Setters' home court. Senior guard Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) led all players with 18 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the floor, 4-of-6 from three and led the team in rebounding with seven. He also added three steals and a block.

Powell's bother, Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School), scored the second-most on the team with 16 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field and nailed four of six foul shots in the final 30 seconds to maintain the Setters' control. He also added six rebbounds and a block.

Junior guard Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass./Tech Boston / Southern Connecticut State) was just under double-digits with nine points. He dished out six assists.

Both Daemen (5-6)  and Pace were evenly matched in the second half, both scoring 36 points each. Pace had the advantage in the first half, leading 30-24 going into the locker room.

For the Wildcats, Joey Atkins and Nick MacDonald led with 15 points each.

The Setters had an eight-point lead with 12:14 left in the game, 45-37, but, from there, the Wildcats rallied and took a 46-45 lead at 8:43 after Atkins went for a fastbreak dunk off a Setter missed layup and Dylan Fasoyiro block.

The lead was very short-lived as Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) answered with a 3-ball from the elbow and Bennett capitalized on a Daemen turnover to drive in a layup off the glass to swing the momentum back in Pace's favor, 50-46 (7:26).

The Setters went up seven again, 58-51, but Daemen came back all the way to tie it up at 60-al with 2:30 remaining in the game.

Back-and-forth turnovers and missed layups plagued both teams until two made free throws from Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) put Pace back up two, 62-60 with 56 seconds on the clock.

The fouling strategy was in full effect by the Wildcats, but Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) was successful in four of his six attempts to keep Pace afloat.

The win gives the Pace men's basketball team momentum going into the short holiday break. The Setters will be back in action at home at Goldstein Fitness Center for a New Years Eve matinee against the College of Sain Rose. Game time is schedule for 3:30 p.m. in the NE10 doubleheader.
