Kate Demars (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) scored the game-winner in the 88th minute of action.
Setter sophomore forward
Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) scored the opening goal for Pace, taking a pass from classmate Noëlle Meij to the backboard in the 19th minute. The goal was Dietz' 12th on the season. The goal kept the Setters up 1-0 going into halftime. Pace (13-7) had outshot New Haven (9-11), 5-2.
Coming in from the break, the Setters needed less than four minutes to get a second goal on the board, this one coming from freshman midfielder
Tavia Flecksteiner assisted by Dietz. Flecksteiner lifted the over New Haven keeper Keira Integlia who had gone down on the ground to intercept Dietz' pass in front of the goal.
New Haven answered with goals by Abby Nixon and Kat Trammel, who scored the game-tying goal with less than four minutes to go in regulation. Nixon's first goal for New Haven was scored less than two minutes into the final period.
In the first overtime, Pace got off six shots and four penalty corners but was unsuccessful. New Haven took four shots, but freshman goalkeeper
Alina Buerger (Königs Wusterhausen, Brandenburg, Germany/Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium) saved each one of them.
Demars' goal came at 87:35, as she tipped in a cross pass from Dietz. It was Demars' sixth goal of the season.
For the game, Pace outshot New Haven 20-11. Buerger made six saves for the Setters.
Pace will look to capture its first ever Northeast-10 tournament title as they take on No. 4 seed Adelphi for the NE10 Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Motamed Field. The two teams last faced each other on Nov. 9 when the Setters defeated the Panthers 5-2. Pace will be riding a seven-game winning streak heading into the title game.
Adelphi upset No. 1 seed Saint Anselm, 2-1, also in double overtime.
Tickets will be sold for the championship game at $10 for adults, and $5 for seniors/children, and free admission will be granted for all students.
