ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In an NCAA Sweet Sixteen rematch, Daemen University used a strong third quarter performance to slip by the No. 22-ranked Pace University women's basketball team, 52-45, in the season-opening "Redhawks Classic" game hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.
The Wildcats outscored the Setters by seven points (16-9) in the third period, which was also the final margin of victory. The other three quarters of action all finished within one-point scoring margins.
Graduate point guard
Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was stellar on both ends of the court for Pace, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists as the Setters' only double-digit scorer.
Freshman forward
Ciara Collins (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) was also solid in her debut outing despite shooting only 30 percent from the field. The Bristol, Conn., native netted nine points and hauled in five rebounds.
Daemen graduate guard Paige Emborsky led the Wildcats with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, with fifth year forward Mickayla Ivy controlling the glass with 10 boards on top of eight points and three assists.
Next up, the Setters (0-1) will play the Redhawks Classic hosts, Robert Wesleyan at noon on Saturday, Nov. 12. Robert Wesleyan lost to Felician in the opener, 80-61.
