PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After a classic encounter, the Pace University field hockey team lost to No. 8 Assumption at home in double overtime, 1-0. The Greyhounds have not lost to an NE10 team since Nov. 11, 2019, a streak of 26 games and counting.
Despite a strong performance, the Setters drop to 2-3 in the NE10 and 5-5 overall. Assumption remains an undefeated 4-0 in the conference (7-2 overall).
The Setters outshot the Greyhounds, 19-9, and controlled the majority of the game but could not score on reigning NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year, Kylie Gargiulo. The graduate student's 10-save performance resulted in her ninth straight regular-season shutout, dating back to last season.
Pace sophomore
Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was ferocious on offense putting seven of her 10 shots on goal, but Gargiulo kept her streak intact and is now 35-4 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents, with more shutouts (23) than goals conceded (22) in those games.
After 72 minutes of scoreless action, Greyhound Sydney Bouchard's assist on a penalty corner found Hannah Tepper's stick which the graduate student fired into the cage for the game winner.
The Setters are back in action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry against Mercy (2-1 NE10, 3-1)
