Pace Field Hockey Nipped at Mercy, 3-2

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Playing in a seventh straight one-goal game, the Pace University field hockey team (5-6, 2-4 NE10) was defeated at Mercy College on Tuesday by a score of 3-2.

The Setters battled back from a 2-0 deficit before an Alyssa Sacco goal early in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winner for Mercy.

The final score doesn't tell the whole story for Pace in the contest. The Blue and Gold put together a dominant performance that featured a 25-8 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 15-4 edge in penalty corners.

Mercy goalkeeper Lauren Viscione finished with 21 stops in net—the second highest total in the NE10 this season. The Mavericks also received a pair of defensive saves from Flynn Kirk.

Trailing by two goals after the opening frame, the Setters put two across in the second quarter to even the score.

Senior Eveline Bussemaker (Bussum, North-Holland/Gemeentelijk Gymnasium Hilversum) cut the lead in half with her second goal of the season while sophomore Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) registered her 23rd career tally just three minutes later.

Sophomore Noelle Meij (Huizen, Netherlands/Laar & Berg Secondary School) assisted on Pace's first goal while senior Hannah Wyllie (Guildford, England/George Abbot School) earned the helper on the equalizer.
