PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing a fifth consecutive one-goal game, the Pace University field hockey team earned a 1-0 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday night. The tight victory pushes the Setters' record to 5-4 this season, including 2-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
For the second straight contest, it was freshman
Sydney Sims (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) providing the game-winner. This time she finished off a deflection by
Kate Demars (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) in the 22nd minute of the first half.
Despite only finding the one tally, Pace dominated the action against STAC. The Setters finished with a 6-1 margin in shots-on-goal and a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Freshman
Alina Buerger (Königs Wusterhausen, Brandenburg, Germany/Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium) posted her second straight shutout, and third overall this season. The German finished with one save in a full 60 minutes of action.
Buerger currently ranks third in the NE10 in goals-against average (1.66) and fourth in total saves (56).
