Volleyball Rallies With A Four-Set Win Over Le Moyne

Setters record second-straight match win.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace volleyball rallied back from a first set loss to defeat Le Moyne, 3-1 (19-25, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-10) at Goldstein Fitness Center on Tuesday night. The match advances the Setters to 5-16 overall, 3-6 in NE10 action.
 
Senior outside hitter Brielle Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) led all players with 16 kills. Junior outside hitter Cydney Gardner (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) had 13 with sophomore middle blocker Daniella Abbastante (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) with nine.
 
Sophomore setter Georgette Cosentino (Scarsdale, N.Y./The Ursuline School) posted a double-double with a game-best 39 assists and 13 digs. Senior libero Jamie Bittiger (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) recorded 19 digs.
 
Madeleine Kennedy and Madison Dembroski tied for a team-best six kills for Le Moyne (7-13, 3-6 NE10).
 
Pace hit .696 percent in set four with just one error and 17 kills. In set two, Pace recorded a .344 hitting percentage. For the game, the Setters marked .320 hitting, the second-best performance this season.
 
In the first set, Pace led through the 10th point. Le Moyne tied it up with two aces by Dolphin Haley Gerken. An error by Gerken on the next serve knotted it up again at 11-11. A kill by Marie Rhodes set up by Gerken gave Le Moyne the lead for the rest of the game.
 
The second set had the Setters and Dolphins tied 7-7 before Pace went on a 3-0 run to go ahead 10-7. Jones had two kills in the run. Pace kept the lead for the rest of the set, scoring eight consecutive points to pull away 20-10 with Bittiger serving. Bittiger had two aces in the run. The final two points of the set were kills by junior outside hitter Cydney Gardner (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood), both assisted by Cosentino.
 
Pace jumped out to a 4-0 start before Le Moyne scored three points to cut the lead to one point. The Setters maintained the lead and went on a 12-0 run behind the serves of sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Amos (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) to take a 17-6 advantage. Jones recorded five kills in the scoring run. The Setters' start was too much for the Dolphins to overcome as they won 25-16.
 
Similar to set three, Pace continued to dominate, jumping out to a quick 23-9 lead before taking the match-win, 25-10.
 
The Setters are back in action this weekend, playing a Saturday and Sunday homestand against Franklin Pierce and Southern New Hampshire University. The match against Franklin Pierce is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's match against Southern New Hampshire is also at 1 p.m. Sunday's match is senior day for the Setters seniors.
