COLCHESTER, Vt. – On the back of dominant third and fourth set performances, the Pace University volleyball team (4-16, 2-5 NE10) picked up its first conference road win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Saint Michael's (1-17, 0-9 NE10) on Saturday afternoon.
The first two sets were tightly contested affairs with the Setters taking the first 25-20, before the Purple Knights came back to take the second 25-21.
Pace seized the game from there, winning the next two sets by a combined 50-39, including racing out to a 20-8 lead to start the third period (25-11, 25-18).
Senior outside hitter
Brielle Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) played an outstanding match for the Blue and Gold, racking up the most points (21.5), kills (18), and service aces (3) of any player on both sides, while additionally adding nine digs to her stat line. The senior came into the contest with the second-best kills/set mark (3.46) in the Northeast-10 Conference and improved it to 3.53 with her performance against Saint Michael's.
Sophomore setter
Georgette Cosentino (Scarsdale, N.Y./The Ursuline School) finished with 39 of the team's 48 assists as Pace's main distributer. On the defensive end, senior defensive specialist/libero
Jamie Bittiger (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) led the way with 15 digs to go along with five assists.
Alexandra Baez Rentas did her part for the Purple Knights as the sophomore tallied a game-high 22 digs with 33 assists.
With four games to go in the regular season, Pace returns home for a three-game homestand next week, starting with a Tuesday night visit to Goldstein Fitness Center from Le Moyne on Oct. 25.
