WALTHAM, MA – Pace women's soccer fell to Bentley on the road on Wednesday afternoon, 2-1, to take their record to 2-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference and 4-7-2 overall, while the Falcons go to 3-4-1 and 5-5-3 respectively.
Â
Bentley took the lead in the 20
th minute when Gabby Vachon leveled a pass to Amanda Andriano just outside the upfield corner of the box. The grad student kicked the ball low into the back of the net off her right foot, past the far post, for her first tally of the season.
Â
Pace quickly equalized, scoring just six minutes later when freshman
Ava Viebrock (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay Senior) crossed a ball from way outside deep into the box to the waiting head of sophomore
Allison Carr (Plantsville, Conn./Southington).
Â
Carr now has five goals and five assists on the season, both team highs, and is second the conference with 15 points.
Â
For the second straight game, the Setters were the stronger side in the second half, but in the 64
th minute Bentley pinballed the ball around inside Pace's box until freshman
Alexis Lee (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Joseph by the Sea) was assessed a handball resulting in a penalty shot. Brooke Jones nestled the ball low and away for the game-winner.
Â
A Carr shot in the 77
th minute and a Viebrock point-blank header in the 86
th minute were both saved by Bentley goalkeeper Claire Ewen to preserve the win.
Â
The Blue and Gold outshot Bentley, 17-14, with a 6-0 edge in corners.
Â
Despite the loss, with four games left to play the Setters remain just four points shy of a playoff seed in the tightly packed NE10 standings.
Â
Pace hosts Assumption (3-4-1 NE10, 4-4-4) for Senior Night on Saturday at 7 p.m.
