Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pace Women's Soccer Falls at Saint Michael's, 2-1

COLCHESTER, VT – The Pace University women's soccer team was defeated by Saint Michael's College, 2-1, on the road Saturday afternoon.

The loss puts the Setters' NE10 record at 2-4 (4-5-2 overall), while Saint Michael's picks up its first conference win to lift their record to 1-3-3 (2-3-4).

Pace took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when sophomore Allison Carr (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) pulled off a cheeky reverse move with her heel, giving the lefty space to curl a stylish shot into the upper far corner of the goal.

The lead would not last for long, however, as six minutes later the Purple Knights equalized the encounter after a misplay on the ball. A Saint Michael's corner kick didn't turn anything up, but junior Sam Page chased the ball down just inside the box and flicked it back towards the goal area. Freshman Alexis Lee (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Joseph by the Sea) put a light touch on the ball while trying to clear it, leaving Claire Williams with a wide-open shot-on-goal, which the junior scored, leveling the game before the break.

The game-winner came five minutes into the second half when senior Izzy Ruprecht used just one classy touch to simultaneously intercept a Pace pass and guide the ball to teammate Faith Kosiba. The freshman made a nice dribble before curling a lefty goal of her own just past the diving, outstretched arm of Annabella Cole (Selden, N.Y./St. Anthony's).

Pace's final significant scoring opportunity came in the 78th minute when a Cecilia Puentes (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L Johnson) shot was saved by Katie Escobedo, the only save required of the senior on the afternoon of her Senior Day.

The Setters had the shooting edge on the whole 12-10, but only put two of those shots on goal, Carr's tally and Puentes' miss, as opposed to the Purple Knights' six shots-on-goal.

Pace goalkeepers Cole and Anna Fiore (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) each took a half in net and saved two shots.

The Setters host Franklin Pierce University (4-2 NE10, 7-2-1) next Saturday at 7 p.m.
