RINDGE, N.H. – Playing the first of two road contests in a 24-hour span, the 22
nd-ranked Pace University women's basketball team was defeated in the final seconds at Franklin Pierce on Tuesday night. The 53-52 loss moves the Setters' record to 14-3 overall this season, 8-2 in the NE10.
Following a
Katumina Mansaray (Ontario, Canada/Cardinal Newman Secondary School/Tilton School) jumper with nine seconds left that provided Pace with a one-point lead, it was a floater from Gimenez Monserrat with three seconds on the clock that clinched the win for Franklin Pierce.
A tight defensive battle throughout, the Setters and Ravens exchanged 10 leads and had six ties on Tuesday. Both teams earned a trio of leads in the fourth quarter, while neither squad gained an advantage of more than four points across the final 12:03 of regulation.
The Blue and Gold's offensive production came from multiple sources. Pace's attack featured five players with at least eight points.
Senior
Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led the Setters with 12 points, while Mansaray chipped in 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting. Â
Graduate forward
Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) fell just short of her fifth double-double of the season with nine points and 10 rebounds (team-high).
Naya Rivera (Pomona, N.Y./North Rockland) and
Mackenzie Koch (Reston, Va./Herndon) each tallied eight points apiece, while combining for 13 boards.
Collectively, Pace finished 21-of-63 (33.3%) from the field and 2-for-16 from three-point range.
