Women's Basketball Holds off Saint Michael's for Coach Seymour's 500th Win

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Propelled by a career-high 31 points from Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School), the Pace University women's basketball team tallied a 69-65 win over Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon. The victory pushes the Setters' overall record to 14-2 this season, including marks of 8-1 in the NE10 and 9-0 at home.

Coach Seymour Milestone
The Blue and Gold's triumph over Saint Michael's marked the 500th win in the career of Pace's head coach, Carrie Seymour. Now in her 30th season in Pleasantville, she becomes just the 17th active head coach in all of Division II to join the prestigious "500-Club".

Seymour, who currently sits at No. 35 on the all-time Division II wins list, is also just the 21st coach in Division II history with at least 500 victories at the same school.

How it Happened
Schetter, who continues to lead the NE10 in scoring this season (21.7 ppg), was once again stellar on Saturday. The Beacon, N.Y. native recorded 18 of her career-best 31 points in the second half, while also finishing the contest with seven rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Schetter's 9-for-10 afternoon from the free-throw line was part of a season-best team effort of 14-for-16 at the charity stripe.

Sophomore Katumina Mansaray (Ontario, Canada/Cardinal Newman Secondary School/Tilton School) joined Schetter in double figures with a season-best 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Senior Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) chipped in a team-high five assists, to go along with five points, two blocks and a steal.

Collectively, it was a fast start that catapulted Pace against the Purple Knights. The Setters allowed just six points across the opening 14-plus minutes of the game.

Pace's defense allowed its lead to grow to as high as 21 points in the second quarter before taking a 12-point edge into halftime.

After Saint Michael's climbed back to take a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Setters closed the door with a 12-0 run. Pace's spurt produced a comfortable enough, 67-56 edge, with just 2:33 left in regulation.

Pace's defense finished the day with a season-high 22 forced turnovers.

Up Next
The Setters will be on the road twice during the mid-week, beginning with a visit to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday night (Jan. 25).
