POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Competing for the final time prior to the NE10 Championships, the Pace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both defeated at Vassar College on Friday night.
Women's Recap (Vassar 163, Pace 123)
It was another diving sweep from senior
Amy Calandro (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) that propelled Pace against the Brewers. The Westchester County native tallied winning scores of 188.6 (one-meter) and 211.8 (three-meter).
Joining the diving success was three triumphant swims. Junior
Caelyn Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) began things with a victorious time of 11:56.06 in the 1,000-free.
Taiis Sanchez-Messado (Ossining, N.Y./Saint Vincent Ferter) and
Katherine Kline (Salisbury Mills, N.Y./Washingtonville) also touched the wall first for Pace. Sanchez-Messado sprinted to victory in the 50-breast (32.84), while Kline clocked a low mark in the 100-free (55.87).
Men's Recap (Vassar 180, Pace 110)
In similar fashion to the women, the Pace men's squad also won both diving events on Friday night.
Sophomore
Sean Rorke (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) tallied the first high score with a mark of 271.60 in the three-meter, while senior
Patrick Dwyer (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) pulled out the win in the one-meter (258.50).
In addition to the sensational diving, Pace also tallied a pair of swimming victories. Senior
Nicholas Lombardo (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) kick-started the Blue and Gold in the 1,000-free with a winning time of 10:43.63.
Freshman
Xander Hughes (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) also recorded a low mark, finishing the 50-breast in just 28.89.
