PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Competing for the first time in over a month, the Pace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were each defeated by Bentley on Saturday afternoon.
Women's Recap (Bentley 176, Pace 104)
The Setters put together a trio of wins against the Falcons. Senior diver
Amy Calandro (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) kicked things off with a top mark of 203.7 in the three-meter dive.
Classmate
Daniela Lusuriello (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) followed with a low mark in the 100-IM. The Orange County native clocked in at 1:08.87.
A triumphant relay squad rounded out Pace's victories on Saturday. The 200-free relay team of
Katherine Kline (Salisbury Mills, N.Y./Washingtonville),
Taiis Sanchez-Messado (Ossining, N.Y./Saint Vincent Ferter),
Kalin Tang (Miramar Beach, Fla./Fort Walton Beach) and
Annabel Keppel-Palmer (Kent, England/Maidstone Grammar School) registered a low time of 1:46.35.
Sanchez-Messado also put forth a second-place performance for the Blue and Gold. The Westchester County native sprinted to runner-up finish in the 50-breast (33.31).
Men's Recap (Bentley 191, Pace 103)
It was yet another sensational diving day for senior
Patrick Dwyer (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) that highlighted the Setters' afternoon. Dwyer not only broke his own school record in the one-meter, but his score of 299.4 also eclipsed the NCAA's qualifying standard.
Dwyer, who has now posted NCAA qualifying scores in both diving events this season, achieved the top mark in the three-meter (275.25) as well on Saturday.
Fellow diver
Sean Rorke (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) also performed admirably in his Setter debut. The newest Pace student-athlete finished second in both the one-meter (243.98) and three-meter (249.45) events.
Sophomore
Tyler Besnoff (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) served as Pace's other individual winner against the Falcons. Besnoff clocked in a low mark of 57.03 in the 100-IM.
The Blue and Gold capped off the meet with a win in the 200-free relay. Pace's squad of
Nicholas Lombardo (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell),
Joshua Comia (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by-the-Sea),
Krishna Alexander Adapa (George Town, Cayman Islands/St. Ignatius Catholic School) and
Xander Hughes (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) touched the wall first with a time of 1:40.23.
