PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing their first home game in nearly 22 months, the Pace University football team dropped a dramatic 40-33 contest to American International College on Friday night.
After the Setters' tied the game courtesy of a six -yard touchdown pass from
Carlton Aiken (Gibbstown, N.J./Paulsboro) to
Ramir Tann-Davis (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Eastside) with 39 seconds remaining, the Yellow Jackets answered with a game-winning touchdown just 21 seconds later.
AIC's game-winning score was a 27-yard touchdown connection from Jayson DeMild to Jahei McGuire with 18 seconds on the clock.
Tann-Davis' dramatic touchdown with under a minute remaining was his third touchdown catch of the night. He also recorded a 29-yard score in the second quarter to put Pace ahead 12-6, and a 72-yard dash to the end zone in the third quarter to lift the Setters to a 19-6 edge.
The New Jersey native finished the game with eight total receptions for 158 yards—both of which eclipsed career-highs from last week's game at East Stroudsburg (6 catches, 147 yards).
Tann-Davis' partner in the passing game, Aiken, posted a 17-for-38 stat line for 277 yards and the three touchdowns. He also carried the ball 14 times for a team-high 82 rushing yards.
The Setters' other touchdown of the night came on the defensive side of the ball. JuniorÂ
Neimar Santouse (Clifton, N.J./Passaic County Technical Institute) pounced on a poor AIC snap on the three-yard line—a scoring play that provided the Blue and Gold with a 26-6 lead with 7:05 left in the third quarter.
Also on the defensive side of the ball, senior
Dustin Huseinovic (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) racked up a team-high 11 tackles for a second straight game. He also posted a half-sack and a pass break-up.
Santouse's fumble recovery served as the second forced turnover for the Setters. Senior
Michael DiIorio (Norwalk, Conn./St. Joseph) hauled in his first career interception in the second quarter.
