Pace Baseball Splits Sunday Doubleheader Against New Haven

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Wrapping up a four-game home series versus the University of New Haven, the Pace University baseball team split a pair of contests with the Chargers on Sunday afternoon. The Setters are now 14-11 overall this season, including a 9-9 mark in the NE10.

Game One – Pace 6, New Haven 0 (Seven Innings)
A pair of Pace pitchers combined to toss a two-hitter in the opener as the Setters tallied their first shutout of the season.

Sophomore Patrick Gleason (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) earned the win on the mound following five innings of one-hit action. He finished the game with four strikeouts, while facing the minimum amount of batters.

Frankie Giuliano (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) continued the strong outing with a pair of shutout innings out of the bullpen. He tallied three strikeouts, compared to no walks.

The Setter offense strung together four separate scoring innings in the win. An RBI triple by Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) in the first inning started things, while a sac fly from Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy) put Pace up 2-0 after one.

Miles Kelly (Mattituck, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) lifted the Setters to a 5-0 lead in fifth when he launched a two-run home run over the right-field wall.

Johnny Guarantino capped off the Pace scoring with an RBI single in the sixth that brought home Andrew Primm (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa). Primm and Treble each finished the first game with two hits, while Treble also posted a team-high three runs scored.

Game Two – New Haven 6, Pace 2
A pair of three-run innings for the Chargers told the story in Game Two. The visitors put three across in the fifth before taking a 6-0 lead in the seventh.

Pace starter, Nelson Arroyo (Washingtonville, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic), pitched well in four innings of work. The junior right-hander allowed just a single hit across four scoreless frames.

Senior Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) served as Pace's best offensive performer in the second game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Junior Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.Y./North Salem High School) knocked in the Setters' other run on an RBI single in the eighth.
