SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Highlighted by a shutdown defensive performance, the 19
th-ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team registered a 16-3 triumph at AIC on Wednesday night. The decisive victory improves the Setters' record to 6-1 this season (5-1 in the NE10).
It was dominance from the opening draw for Pace as senior
Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) found the back of net just 14 seconds into the game. Rafferty's tally sparked a 6-0 run to begin the contest, which eventually turned into a 12-1 halftime lead.
The Blue and Gold put together huge advantages in almost every statistical category, including 24-5 in shots-on-goal and 17-3 in draw controls.
The Setters' offense was led by multiple-goal efforts by Rafferty,
Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas),
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland), and
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh). The foursome almost evenly contributed 13 of Pace's 16 tallies.
Corretjer led the Blue and Gold with five total points off three goals and a pair of assists. Mucci, meanwhile, racked up a team-best six draw controls.
Junior goalkeeper,
Sienna Masullo (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai School District), picked up her sixth win of the season, allowing just the three goals in a complete-game effort.
The Setters' have now earned their five wins this season by an average of 12 goals. Tonight's victory improved Pace to 6-1 all-time against the Yellow Jackets.
