PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Completing a four-game sweep of Saint Rose, the Pace University softball team tallied two more victories over the Golden Knights on Monday afternoon. The Setters posted winning scores of 15-2 and 3-1.
Game One – Pace 15, Saint Rose 2 (Five Innings)
After a pair of run-rule wins on Saturday, the Setters were back at it in Game One. Pace's onslaught featured runs in every inning of the game, including an eight-spot in the third.
Amongst a litany of terrific performances, freshman
Kaylani Miller (Los Angeles, Calif./Village Christian) shined brightest for the Setters. The California native went 4-for-4 with three triples, five RBIs, and three runs scored. She is now batting .417 this season, while ranking third in the NE10 in slugging percentage (.833).
Emma Carruth (Torrance, Calif./Beverly Hills),
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) and
Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) all joined in with multiple hits in the opener as well. The trio combined to go 6-for-11 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Monteleone continues to be Pace's top hitter this season with a .425 batting average.
Senior pitcher
Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) earned the win after allowing just five hits and two runs in a complete-game, five innings.
Game Two – Pace 3, Saint Rose 1
Following the offensive explosion in Game One, it was pitching that led Pace to victory in the finale.
Freshman
Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) tossed a complete-game, two-hitter to earn her second-straight win in the circle. The Brooklyn native has now allowed just four earned runs across her last 19.1 innings of action.
The Setters trailed 1-0 for the second straight game before tallying runs in three different innings. Junior
Arielle Acosta (Union City, Calif./Moreau Catholic High School) put Pace ahead in the third with an RBI single.
Carolina Iturriaga (North Hills, Calif./Grover Cleveland) scored on the play after leading off the frame with a double to right-center.
Carruth supplied Pace with some insurance in the fifth as she knocked an RBI double down the right-field line. Sophomore
Arianna Guarracino (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) came around to score after she singled with one out in the inning.
After the Blue and Gold took a 3-1 lead, Acevedo retired the final six Saint Rose batters of the game.
