Pace Softball Defeated Twice by SCSU

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Coming into the day on a four-game winning streak, the Pace University softball team dropped a pair of contests to Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon.

Game One – SCSU 4, Pace 2
With the score tied at 1-1, a three-run sixth inning for Southern Connecticut proved to be the difference in the opener.

Arielle Acosta (Union City, Calif./Moreau Catholic High School) evened the game up at 1-1 in the fifth on an RBI double down the left-field line. Acosta, who is currently Pace's top hitter this season (.400), put together a 4-for-4 effort at the plate during the first game.

The Setters cut into the SCSU lead in the seventh courtesy of a Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo. /Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College) RBI double that scored Acosta. Walkingstick would go on to be stranded at second to end the contest.

Game Two – SCSU 5, Pace 2
The Setters' game two defeat featured a 5-0 deficit, while a total of 10 Pace hits only yielded a pair of runs.

Walkingstick, Isabelle Boudreau (Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) and Briana Ryan (Wilmington, Calif./Carson) all put together 2-for-3 performances at the plate, while Carolina Iturriaga (North Hills, Calif./Grover Cleveland) and Sammi Swenson (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) each registered RBI singles.

Graduate pitcher Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W Baker) made her season debut in the circle, tossing a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Junior Maxibel Garcia (Passaic, N.J./Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology) followed Bernet out of the bullpen, and also registered two shutout innings in relief.

Following a weather postponement tomorrow, the Setters will return to action on April 20th for a non-conference doubleheader at Adelphi (2:30 p.m.).
