SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Beginning a four-game road series against Le Moyne, the Pace University softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Dolphins on Friday afternoon.
Game Two – Le Moyne 9, Pace 7
Despite the final score, senior
Briana Ryan (Wilmington, Calif./Carson) put together one of the best individual performances in recent memory in the Friday finale.
The California native launched three home runs across four at-bats, finishing the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. She hit solo shots in the first and seventh innings, while recording a two-run bomb in the third.
Freshman
Kaylani Miller (Los Angeles, Calif./Village Christian) also homered in the second game of the day, hammering a two-run blast in the top of the first inning.
The Setters turned the page quickly after the loss in Game One, scoring three runs in the top of the first before extending their edge to 5-1 after three.
Le Moyne roared back in the middle innings, plating a pair in the fourth before tallying a five-run fifth.
Following the Setters' two-run third inning, they were only able to muster one hit until the final frame.
Trailing by four runs going into the seventh, Pace attempted to climb back with a two-out rally. The Blue and Gold's sixth run was provided courtesy of Ryan's third home run of the game.
Then back-to-back hits from
Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo. /Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College) and
Alexandra Tejeda (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar) cut the Le Moyne lead to 9-7. Tejeda would end up being stranded on second as the contest concluded.
Game One – Le Moyne 5, Pace 3
A four-run fifth inning by the home team proved to be difference in the day's opener.
Le Moyne's damage in the fifth came after Pace took a 2-1 lead in the third off a Miller two-run single. Miller finished the game with the two RBIs, to go along with a team-best three hits in four at-bats.
Sophomore
Arianna Guarracino (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) scored a pair of runs, in addition to going 2-for-3 at the plate. She scored the Setters' third run on an RBI single off the bat of junior
Arielle Acosta (Union City, Calif./Moreau Catholic High School).
