PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Beginning a four-game home series against Saint Rose, the Pace University softball team outscored the Golden Knights by a 20-3 margin in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
Game One – Pace 10, Saint Rose 2 (Five Innings)
The Setters' opening win was sparked by a seven-run onslaught in the third inning. Five consecutive two-out hits yielded five runs, and provided Pace with an 8-0 lead.
Emma Carruth (Torrance, Calif./Beverly Hills),
Briana Ryan (Wilmington, Calif./Carson),
Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane), and
Arianna Guarracino (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) all finished 2-for-3 at the dish to lead the Pace offense. The four Setters also combined for six runs scored and seven RBIs.
Arielle Acosta (Union City, Calif./Moreau Catholic High School),
Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) and
NancyAnn Revilla (Staten Island, N.Y./Port Richmond) also registered RBI hits in the first game of the day.
Senior
Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) earned the victory in the circle, allowing just two earned runs across five innings of work.
Game Two – Pace 10, Saint Rose 1 (Six Innings)
Pace's offense picked up right where it left off in the second run-rule win of the day. The Setters tallied multiple runs in each of the final four innings of action while piling up a season-high 14 hits.
Acosta and Ryan each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the attack, while nine different Setters tallied at least one hit in the game. Six different players from the Blue and Gold also recorded an RBI.
Freshman
Alexandra Tejeda (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar) provided the exclamation point in the sixth when she hammered her first-career home run—a two-run blast over the left-field wall—to ultimately end the game at 10-1.
Another freshman,
Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy), picked up her first-career win in the circle. The Brooklyn native scattered just four hits, allowing one earned run in six innings of action.
