PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sparked by eight different goal-scorers, the Pace University women's lacrosse team posted a 20-7 triumph over Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the 18th-ranked Setters to 5-1 so far in 2021.
It was a dominant performance for the Blue and Gold that included a 10-1 stretch to begin the contest. The Setters would go on to score the first four goals of the second half as well to earn their biggest edge of the game at 18-2.
A combined 11 tallies from the senior duo of
Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) and
Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) led the way. Rafferty notched all five of her goals in the first half—the final one providing Pace with a 12-2 lead.
Mucci added six tallies to her team-high season total, which is now at 29. She currently leads the entire NE10 in both total goals and goals per game.
Sophomore
Jolie Urraro (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) matched Rafferty's five points courtesy of three goals and two assists. Juniors
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) joined in with four-point efforts of their own. Corretjer dished out another three assists as she continues to lead the Setters in helpers this season (13).
Pace's dominance also featured a 29-16 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 19-10 edge in draw controls. Rafferty finished with a season-high and team-best six draw controls.
Junior goalkeeper
Sienna Masullo (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai School District) earned the win in net, allowing just four goals and making six saves.
All five of Pace's wins this season have now come by at least nine goals. The Setters have never lost to Southern Connecticut State, improving to 6-0 all-time versus the Owls.
