PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Finishing up a four-game home series against Le Moyne, the Pace University baseball team (11-10, 6-8 NE10) split a doubleheader against the Dolphins on Sunday.
Game Two – Pace 5, Le Moyne 4 (11 Innings)
It was a dramatic conclusion to the weekend as the Setters rallied in the ninth inning of Game Two before earning an extra-inning victory.
Trailing 4-2 in the ninth, senior
Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) came up with a two-out, two-RBI single with the bases loaded to tie the score up. The Setters loaded the bases courtesy of a walk to
Miles Kelly (Mattituck, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) and a pair of singles from
Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.Y./North Salem High School) and
Thomas Keefe (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth).
Kelly would go on to score the game-winning run in the 11
th off a sacrifice fly from
Johnny Guarantano (Nottingham, Md./RJ Reynolds High School). Kelly led off the inning with an infield single before advancing all the way to third on a pair of wild pitches.
Graduate pitcher
Frankie Giuliano (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) picked up the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The Bronx native registered the final two outs of the 10
th before striking out the side in the 11
th. Giuliano finished the game with four consecutive strikeouts.
Junior catcher
Andrew Primm (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) led the way offensively in the second contest, going 3-for-5 with an RBI single in the third.
Joining Giuliano with solid outings on the mound was
Patrick Gleason (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) and
Nelson Arroyo (Washingtonville, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic). Gleason started the game with a pair of scoreless frames, while Arroyo allowed just one run in three innings of work.
Game One – Le Moyne 9, Pace 4 (Seven Innings)
The Dolphins hopped out to a 6-0 lead in the first game of the day following a four-run fifth.
Primm and senior
Greg Tsouprakos (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) each put together identical stat lines of 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Primm finished the doubleheader with six hits in eight at-bats with two RBIs and a run scored.
Seniors
Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy) and
Matt Bass (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) also tallied RBI hits in the first contest of the day.
