PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing their final non-conference contests of the regular season, the Pace University baseball team split a home doubleheader against Stonehill on Saturday afternoon. The 1-1 day moves the Setters' record to 9-8 this season (4-6 in the NE10).
Game One – Pace 4, Stonehill 2
A sensational outing by sophomore
Christian Aich (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) led the way for the Setters in their Saturday victory. The right-hander allowed just one run across eight innings, while tallying a career-high 10 strikeouts.
The Pace offense was mainly supplied by a three-run home run by senior
Dean DePreta (Stamford, Conn./Westhill High School) in the sixth inning. He followed up his third-career long ball with a sacrifice fly in the eighth as well.
Senior
Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) scored a pair of the Setters' runs, while going 3-for-4 at the dish. The New Rochelle native continues to lead Pace this season in both batting average (.415) and runs scored (21).
Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy) joined his classmate with multiple knocks in the win, finishing 2-for-4.
Aich's great performance on the mound puts him at 3-0 this season with a 1.78 ERA in 25.1 innings.
Game Two – Stonehill 1, Pace 0 (Seven Innings)
The Skyhawks' Michael Murray tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in the finale. The Setters put just two runners on base in the contest, while Murray registered seven strikeouts.
Pace's two runners were thanks to a
Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) hit by pitch in the second, while
Matt Bass (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) initiated a walk in the third.
