GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – In a battle of top-20 teams in the country, the Pace University women's lacrosse squad (No. 19) was defeated at 11
th-ranked Adelphi on Thursday by a score of 15-11. The loss shifts the Setters' record to 7-2 this spring, including a 6-2 mark in the NE10.
A big early lead for Adelphi proved to be the difference in a rainy affair on Long Island. The Setters were unable to fully climb back from a 9-2 hole with about nine minutes remaining in the first half.
Pace showed its grit, however, going on to outscore the Panthers, 9-6, over the final 40 or so minutes of the contest. The Blue and Gold cut the deficit to 9-5 at the break, but were unable to get any closer than within four during the second half.
The Setters' 11 goals featured three each from
Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas),
Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) and
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), while
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) found the back of net twice. Sophomore
Christen Lapple (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) notched Pace's lone assist in the game.
Junior
Allison Brady (East Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) recorded a team-high three caused turnovers to go along with three ground balls.
Earning an array of opportunities, the Setters were only able to convert on 4-of-11 free-position chances. Junior
Sienna Masullo (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai School District) played the complete game in net, posting a season-best 10 saves.
Mucci now stands with a conference-best 39 goals this season—12 more than any other player in the league. Corretjer's 36 points is tied for second most in the NE10 behind Mucci.
