ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Seeing their first action in nearly a full calendar year, the 25
th-ranked Pace University women's lacrosse team earned a 13-4 win at Molloy College to begin the 2021 season on Saturday.
The long layoff for the Setters didn't seem to impact senior
Carlyn Mucci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas). The Westchester native was up to her usual scoring ways against Molloy, tying her own single-game *record of seven goals.
Mucci notched four of those tallies in the first half as Pace built up an 8-2 lead at the break. She has now racked up 51 goals across 34 career games with the Setters.
Mucci highlighted a Pace attack that featured five different goal-scorers, including multiple tallies provided by junior
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) and freshman
Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester).
Sarah Witherbee (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) and
Christen Lapple (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) also found the back of the net for Pace, while Corretjer dished out a team-best three assists.
On the defensive side of the ball, junior goalkeeper
Sienna Masullo (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai School District) earned the win in net with five saves and just two goals against.
Sophomore
Jennifer Sommer (Lake Grove, N.Y./Centereach) piloted the Setters in both ground balls and draw controls, nabbing four and five respectively.
*Former Setter greats, Casey Gelderman and
Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport), have also recorded seven goals in a single game.
