PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing their first game in exactly one calendar year, the Pace University baseball team began the 2021 season with a 9-1 triumph over AIC on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Michael Roll (Ramsey, N.J./Bergen Catholic High School) was victorious on the mound for the Setters, and was rather dominant in four innings of work. The right-hander put together nine strikeouts, while allowing just one run on four hits.

Five pitchers came out of the bullpen for Pace, yielding just two hits across five shutout innings. They also combined for five more strikeouts as the Setters totaled 14 on the afternoon.

Offensively, the Setters put three across in the third before blowing the game wide open with five runs in the eighth.

Seniors Dean DePreta (Stamford, Conn./Westhill High School) and Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) combined to go 4-for-9 at the dish with five runs scored and three RBIs. DePreta's triple with the bases loaded the in the eighth inning served as the exclamation point in Pace's victory.

Three other seniors registered RBI hits for the Blue and Gold as well. Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) tripled in a tally in the third, while Greg Tsouprakos (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) also brought a run across with an RBI single in the frame.

Miles Kelly (Mattituck, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) followed DePreta's triple in the eighth with an RBI double of his own, bringing across Pace's final tally of the game.
