STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Pace University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference clash at the College of Staten Island. The Setters' 73-70 setback moves their record to 7-1 during the 2021-22 campaign.
The Blue and Gold's offense was led by four players in double figures. Senior
Marc Dadika (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saint Mary's Rutherford) served as Pace's team leader with a season-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Freshman
Matt Constant (Laconia, N.H./St. Andrew's School (RI)) joined in with a season-high of his own (14 points), while
Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) and
Adeleye Oyekanmi (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) recorded 13 and 10 points respectively.
Powell also chipped in team-highs in both steals (3) and blocks (2), while Oyekanmi was Pace's top rebounder with five boards.
The Setters finished the game 24-of-56 (42.9%) from the field, including 6-for-16 from behind the three-point line. On the other side, CSI knocked in 15 three-pointers in the game.
The Blue and Gold climbed back from an 11-point second-half deficit to cut the Dolphins' lead to just one with 33 seconds remaining.
Staten Island clinched the win with a pair of made free throws and a defensive stop with seven seconds left in the game.
